It's Reading Week! And you know what that means......time to avoid the books and head to a different country or two! I'm leaving in just a few hours and I'm getting excited!
Meanwhile, there have been fireworks constantly for the past week or so as people geared up for Guy Fawkes celebrations. I'm not sure that it's legal for people to buy and set off their own fireworks, because I haven't seen any being sold and there haven't been any crackers or anything nearby. On the 4th we went to a free show that had a giant bonfire effigy, some stilt walkers, and pyro guys who were doing tricks, juggling flaming batons, and extinguishing flames with their mouths. The bonfire was so big that nobody could get within forty or fifty feet of it. I was standing probably thirty yards away and I was a bit uncomfortable because it was too hot! Then the fireworks started and they had a really spectacular show. Here are some photos from the exhibition! Each artillery shell that went up shook the ground because it was so loud!

On the actual 5th of November we found another free show and paid it a visit. This one had no run-up to the fireworks as the other one had, but it was a lot bigger. They had timed the fireworks with music and most of the time they were actually almost on beat as well! They certainly hit all of the musical cues dead on. I was really impressed! I took a little video of that, so I might upload it soon.
Today I tried to go to campus to print off my bus tickets (I already printed everything else that I need, but I only bought the bus tickets yesterday evening) but because of underground upgrades my regular route was not running. So I cleverly decided to go to a different station than normal. Unfortunately this one didn't quite get me to UCL either, so there I was on Baker Street, annoyed, threading my way through hordes of confused and slow moving tourists. It turns out Baker Street is only about 20 minutes from campus, so that worked out well for me, but I lost time that I could have been working in the computer lab on my GIS homework!
I took buses on the way back. I learned my lesson, haha.
The next blog post will probably be next weekend, because I'm not going to be bringing my computer with me, so talk to you later!!!
